The bureau chief:

Adrianne Flynn came to Capital News Service from the Washington bureau of the Arizona Republic, where she was a reporter. She also reported for the The Washington Times, covering Mayor Marion Barry's administration, and for The Dayton Daily News, where she covered serial murderer Jeffery Dahmer and the 11-day Lucasville, Ohio, prison riot.

The grad students:

Joseph Bacchus, 24, will cover politics and the Eastern Shore delegation for Capital News Service. He received a bachelor's degree in English from Vanderbilt University. He is on the board of advisers for the Orlando Sentinel's "New Voices" editorial section, has free-lanced for the Prince George's Post and
covered the Democratic National Convention this summer for CNS. He can be reached at

Judson Berger, 22, is covering environment and agriculture, as well as Southern Maryland, for CNS. He earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Rowan University in New Jersey, where he served as editor of the student newspaper, The Whit. He has interned at American Journalism Review, and has free-lanced for The Gazette newspapers. He can be reached at environment-ann@jmail.umd.edu.

I-Wei Jennifer Chang, 23, is covering the state budget and business issues for CNS, as well as the Baltimore County delegation. Chang received a bachelor's degree in international relations from Georgetown University. She has interned at The China Post, an English-language daily newspaper in Taiwan, and at The
Washington Times. She has also free-lanced for The Gazette and the

Charis Granger, 22, is covering welfare, social services and the Montgomery County delegation. Granger received a bachelor's degree in English from Spelman College in Atlanta, has worked as an editorial assistant and intern for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and free-lanced for the Prince George's Post and
Laurel Leader. She recently worked as a research assistant for the Philip Merrill College of Journalism and UNITY: Journalists of Color Inc. on a study of diversity in the Washington press corps. She can be reached at welfare-ann@jmail.umd.edu.

Stacy Kaper, 25, is covering crime and justice, as well as the Howard and Carroll County delegations. She earned a bachelor's degree in international
relations from Syracuse University and has interned with the Los Angeles
Times and The Dallas Morning News. Kaper has also written for the South
Florida Sun-Sentinel and The Gazette newspapers. She can be reached at justice-ann@jmail.umd.edu.

Laurel Lundstrom, 24, is covering education, as well as the Harford and Cecil County delegations. She earned her bachelor's degree in government studies at Cornell University. Lundstrom interned at The Washington Blade and free-lanced for the Prince George's Journal, the Prince George's Sentinel and the Prince George's Post newspapers. Peter Palmieri, 23, will cover transportation and utilities and the Prince George's County delegation. He received a bachelor's degree in communication from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where he interned with the Poughkeepsie Journal. He has also been a free-lance writer for weekly newspapers in New Jersey and Maryland and worked as a copy editor for Knight Ridder/Tribune in Washington. Ryan Spass, 23, from Farmington, Conn., was a sports reporting intern at USA Today during the spring semester and free-lances for The Daily Record and the Prince George's Post. He has also worked for the Rockbridge Group, writing profiles about small colleges and universities, and this summer he covered the national political conventions for CNS. Spass earned a bachelor's degree in
history from the University of Pittsburgh, where he reported sports for The Pitt News. He will cover health and medical news for CNS and can be reached at health-ann@jmail.umd.edu.
