  Sea Art in Charm City

Councilwoman Catherine Pugh

'I hear you like to have fun...' Baltimore City Councilwoman Catherine Pugh, above with "Zenfish," laughs as she recalls hearing about the idea for a fish exhibit.

The call came from Leslie Lansman, who works at the Baltimore Aquarium. "Have you seen the cows in Chicago?" Lansman asked Pugh. "We should do something like that here in Baltimore."

"Absolutely!" Pugh recalls saying. After talking to the mayor, Pugh began lining up private donations to help create a new breed: Dlchthyaerius Baltimoris, or "aerial fish from Baltimore."

Local artist Steve Weitzman was tapped to design the fiberglass fish structure that artists would paint and draw their unique designs onto.

Each fish would be 6 feet long, 3 feet high, 1 foot wide and weigh about 120 pounds.
