The zoo can barely keep up with all the visitors who want to see the pandas. Each day the zoo receives anywhere from 6,000 to 33,000 visitors, with more people coming on weekends, says spokesman Mike Morgan. Zoo officials believe the pandas are responsible for attracting many of those visitors. When the panda exhibit opened Jan. 10, 2001, the zoo began monitoring the number of people who entered the panda house. Its one millionth visitor, a 6-year-old boy, passed through the exhibit May 3.
