At least 300
women came out for the
first day of auditions April 1, said Stephanie Jojokian, director and choreographer of the Redskins cheerleaders. That
didn't include the 38 returning cheerleaders who tried out again.
Most candidates had some combination of cheerleading, dance or gymnastics
backgrounds. A few never cheered before competing for the Redskins squad.
Prospective candidates interviewed with a 14-judge panel, then spent the rest of the day learning
and performing a dance routine. By the
end of the day, there were 100 girls who moved on to the second round of
auditions the following day.
