A Place Tattooed in History

Tattoo artist George Dobson prepares to tattoo a client.

The museum's artists will never suggest a particular tattoo to customers. They merely offer advice when it is requested.

You have to be at least 18 to get a tattoo.

While the artists are pretty open to clients' ideas, they do have some restrictions: no one under the age of 18 can be tattooed; no profanity can be spoken in the museum; and no tattoos can be given to the inebriated.

Safety and cleanliness are priorities for the artists. Things dropped on the floor, including disposable rubber gloves, are discarded.

"Everyone who tattoos here has been schooled ... about cross-contamination." says Shannon Reilly, who mans the front desk.
