Recent Trends in Assaults, Suicide Attempts and Use of Physical Restraints

Information is from a third-quarter (July through September) facility report on Waxter by the Juvenile Justice Monitoring Unit of the Maryland Attorney General's Office.

* Physical restraint is a nonmechanical behavior management technique involving the use of a physical hold as a means of restricting a youth's movement. It is used as a last resort when a youth could hurt others or tries to escape, according to the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services' "Use of Crisis Prevention Management Techniques Policy."
