Rebuilding La Plata After the Storm

A local convenience store and gas station on Charles Street

After the tornado tore through Dash-In, a convenience store and gas station on La Plata's Charles Street, it was left gutted and roofless. The tornado destroyed 50 and damaged 184 businesses in Charles County; more than 80 percent of the damaged businesses were in La Plata.

Some La Plata business owners are taking advantage of help from one of their own. Paul Facchina, a construction owner, offered to set up a 21 modular-unit structure on Centennial Street for displaced businesses to "get back on their feet."

He said he hopes that "La Plata remains a destination point, and not a ghost town."
