M ay 17,
2004, marks the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision in Brown vs. Board of Education. The 1954 ruling declared that segregating students "solely on
the basis of race" denied black students equal educational opportunities.
This report takes a look back at life for
black students half a century ago and compares it to their plight today. What gains have been made?
